Photography

Ilkka Uimone was born in Finland in 1966, he grow up in a little town called Rovaniemi, in the south of Arctic polar circle. After graduate in the highscool she start to travel thought U.S.A., Europe and Asia, working in all kind of things. When he turned twenty five he discovered photography and went to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Hague in Holand. Then in 1993, he start to work independently for some newspapers from there. But after knowing Eddie Adams in a studio, he became member of the Sygma agency. There in New York he has until know his home, even if he works to Magnum agency.
Uimonen photos have appeared in Newsweek, Time, People and others magazines around the world. For National Geographic he has done some repots like “Afganistan faces “, he has also done a book about this subject in 2004 called Cyd’es.
This photo was taken in Afghanistan in December 1998 there was a political situation very unstable, because they have suffered changes from monarchy to communism and know to the Islamism. The country is divided between Northern alliance and Talibans. They control the country since 1998. In this photography we can see three women looking down. We can see a part of their faces but not enough. I really like the colors, the red tones going to blues hiding their pain. The light who is across the picture contrast the all scene. In fact it’s  very expressive to me, and represent one aspect of the Afghanistan society witch are women in this country. Here they are in a dark room because they didn’t have electric light. The only light is the sun who enter to the room by a hole in the roof.

MOVIES

MOVIES
I have seen Gone with the wind, Singing in the rain, Psicosis, A space Oddisey and  The exorcist.
I love cinema, I go as often as I can, but the most of the time I see movies at home. The last time I went to the cinema was a month ago. I prefer to buy movies to have them at home if I want to see them again. Or to show them to friend who love cinema too.
My favorite film is called Caótica Ana by Julio Medem, a Spanish director. I saw it for first time when I was walking around the streets of Barcelona. I get into the cinema without knowing what I was going to see. And it was just this film that I see. I loved it immediately; maybe because of the situation I see it. In my opinion the good points of this film are the acting, the characters in the films are very beautiful, the landscapes and above all the script. This film is about a young woman who goes through many situations and grows up in the film reviving the lives of many women who are estrangers to her.  Maybe a weak point is the improbability of some situations. I have seen this film many times, and I recommender it too. The others films of Julio Medem I recommend too, like Los amantes del círculo polar, or Lucía y el sexo. The esthetic of all these films is very warm and poetic.

TRAVEL

I like to travel in summer because it’s the only moment in which I have really time to forget other things. In two months you can travel far away or really disconnect of your preoccupations. I usually spend my holidays traveling, or here in Santiago. When I travel I go with friend or family, but lately I would like to travel by my own, alone. Last summer Peruvian friend came to Santiago so we stayed here for a while, and later we went to the beach. I have been abroad, but really like Chile to. I would like to visit the south for example, Villarica, or Marin balmaceda. Unspoilt landscapes is the most amazing thing because I feel there like in an other time, an other era. Two years ago I went to brazil ,Argentina and Uruguay in truck ,a long travel, it was in unforgettable. I learn about a lot of things, and I met a lot of interesting people. With some of them I still have contact by mail. In fact I love travel, especially when I have time to go far away.

Free time?

Free time it’s for me a category that   shouldn’t exist because life is a free time as long as you consider it like this. But I don’t mean you haven’t nothing to do with, on the contrary you can do all you want ,even study is something you choose, or you enjoy.
To me, go to the cinema, theater, even listen to music is as important as do the homework, or study for a test. Enjoy is something very important to me ,to discover every aspect of her, or at least to try .I couldn’t say that I love read because it’s doesn’t means very much, in fact I love some book, good readings  that allow me to travel or feel deferent things. Writers I really like are Cortázar  , Alejandro Dolina, Marcial Souto,Juan Luis Martines, and others.
Winter days makes me want to go out, go to see a movie, or to the theater, especially walk in the street after rain.

Claude Lévi-Strauss

Claude Lévi-Strauss(28 November 1908-30 October 2009)
This man is a French anthropologist and ethnologist. His famous book is Tristes Tropiques where he exposed that we called structuralist school of thought. He has the chair of social anthropology at the Collège de France(1959-1982),and he has been also a member of the Académie Francaise in 1973.
He was born to French parent who were living at the time in Belgium but he grew up in Paris,France. He studied law and philosophy at the Sorbonne ,then in 1935 he went to Brazil where he wrotes Tristes tropiques .
I really like this character because he represents a search that is not merely  an intellectual one but it’s about experiences too. It’s for me the real knowledge, fruit of curiosity .He probably illustrate the romantic search, the delivery to one culture when he studies it. Tristes tropiques  describes  every detail of the communities of the Amazonas in Bazil. Those  unknowed  places who make possible to imagined other kind of society, that take your sense of wonder far away. To know men through the man, which ,explain the importance of myth. I share the point of view that thought or academics disciplines are closer to poetry even art.

Play

Music is important in life because sometimes it’s represent moments of life, or evokes different sensations. It accompanies you in a lot of moments, regardless of whether they are important or not. Like walk in the street or your love song.
I like different kind of music but in this moment I’m listening more rock, especially grunge, garage rock, and argentine rock. Groups like the White Stripes, Incubus, Nirvana, Charly Garcia, and Pescado Rabioso de Spinetta, Sumo. But i can’t say right know one only favorite Singer, maybe it’s Bjork , a Islanding Singer who give a concert   here in Santiago two years ago ,I don’t really like groups of pop or emo music.
I usually download the discography from internet of groups I like; I don’t like to have songs without the album their come from. However there are specials songs in my life like Capitan Beto of Spinetta or others. It‘ll be great could buy all originals albums but they are to expensive.
In conclusion music is as important as food to live.
